Music Lessons
Sonam teaches music on many different ethnic instruments, including harmonium, dumbec, trumpet, recorders, flutes and of course, the voice….
Many yogis love to learn to play harmonium because it is a simple gateway into the world of kirtan and into the music of chanting and nada yoga. Sonam has been playing trumpet for about 55 years now, so that means he is prepared to take a trumpet student far into the literature and skills of trumpet playing! He has also played recorder for nearly as long specializing in music of the European Renaissance, Balkan music and the music of the Tibetan lingb (flute). Sonam has also concertized on dumbec playing Turkish, Bulgarian, Israeli, and middle eastern music. Given this depth of musical experience, and the patience of a good teacher, a music lesson with Sonam not only makes the student more proficient at the instrument, but also able to listen more deeply into the nature of sound. |
